Mystery of Election

(For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;)
Romans 9:11

This is also called the Mystery of Predestination. What we need to understand here is that from the beginning, God specially chooses individuals, families, groups of people or nations for specific purposes.

There has been this ongoing questioning in several people’s mind whether God has favorites or not. Beyond the understanding of man and with no respecter of persons or positions, God has demonstrated in times immemorial that He has already predestined some people for special causes or assignments. However, this does not mean that a person is more special than another person.

Everyone is predestinated by God for unique assignments on earth by God. We all have our unique purposes, opportunities, spheres of influence and relevance, as well as our times of manifestations. Each man has his moment of significance in history. Each person has a role to play on the timeline of life on earth. Most times, we notice that his chosen are usually the unexpected when it is their hour of revelation and manifestation. This is because His ways are beyond the natural understanding of man.

A few examples:

Abraham was called to go into Canaan. Genesis 12:1

God chose Jacob rather than Esau. Genesis 25:22-28; Malachi 1:2, 3; Romans 9:13-16

Israel was chosen as a nation to be God’s people. Deuteronomy 7:6; 14:2

Joseph ruled over his brothers because he was chosen by God.

David was chosen by God to be king amongst his brothers.

Gideon, being the least in his family was chosen to deliver Israel.

Paul was one of the greatest apostles recorded in history although he had no physical encounter with Jesus before his death and resurrection.
